From 9–12 June 2026, the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) hosted the Regional Geospatial Forum for Inclusive Biodiversity Action in Nairobi, Kenya, under the EU-funded ArcX Programme. The forum brought together Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs), women, youth, governments, and conservation partners to explore how geospatial technologies can strengthen biodiversity conservation and support the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF). Participants shared experiences on integrating Earth Observation, GIS, and local knowledge to improve biodiversity monitoring, support evidence-based decision-making, and advance Target 3 (conserving at least 30% of land and sea areas by 2030).

More than a technical meeting, the forum laid the foundation for a regional network that will strengthen collaboration, amplify community voices, and contribute to Africa's biodiversity agenda leading to CBD COP17.
