Calls for Proposals in the framework of the African Regional Centres of Excellence (ArcX) programme’s ocean Component - OPERA – Ocean Prediction Enhancement in Regions in Africa are now open.

The objectives of the calls for proposals focus on selecting public institutions in sub-Saharan Africa to establish and manage:

•    One consortium to develop and operate one regional Operational Ocean Forecasting Service and four coastal forecasting (OOFS consortium) 
•    One consortium to develop and implement applications integrating forecasting data towards disaster risk reduction, sustainable blue economy and marine conservation.

  1. Key details for the OOFS call for proposals:

Launch of call: 6 March 2026
Application deadline: 5 June 2026 12:00 am Paris Time 
Grant: 800,000 EUROS 
Expected engagement: 40 months 
Who can apply: This call is open to public/national institutions in a coastal Sub-Saharan African country 
 

  • The Action contributes to strengthening ocean forecasting capacity across SubSaharan Africa within the OPERA project.
  • The work supports longterm regional cooperation and the development of operational ocean services.
  • The call aligns with the ArcX programme’s focus on green transition and regional excellence.
